Olympique Lyonnais’ attempts to sign Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton (22) are stalling, according to a report from L’Équipe.
Jordan Veretout has already left Lyon this summer and Nemanja Matić and even Corentin Tolisso could yet follow. Regardless of their futures, there is a need to recruit in midfield and Morton has emerged as a priority target, as initially reported by The Times.
L’Équipe understands that OL have an agreement in place with the England U21 international, however, the Ligue 1 side are yet to reach an agreement with his club, Liverpool. The Merseyside club are currently demanding a €9m fee, without bonuses. OL believe that this figure is too high. As a result, talks between the clubs are not advancing.
Lyon avoided administrative relegation to Ligue 2 upon appeal, however, the club’s continued financial struggles have seen a period of austerity introduced by new president Michelle Kang. Funds are, therefore, limited.
