Corentin Tolisso (31) has said that he has set his sights on breaking into the France squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
Florian Thauvin’s recent call-up is proof that Didier Deschamps’ loyalty is enduring. The RC Lens forward hadn’t been called up for six years before his name was surprisingly included in the October squad. He marked his return with a goal.
His tale perhaps provides inspiration for Tolisso, whose last appearance for Les Bleus came back in Euro 2020 (played in the summer of 2021, due to COVID). In any case, the Olympique Lyonnais captain has clearly set himself the objective of travelling to North America for the upcoming World Cup.
“I know where I want to go and it is to the World Cup,” said the former Bayern Munich midfielder in a press conference last week. “I still have hope. There are still six months. I won’t give up. If I went, I would be very happy, and if I don’t go, then my daughters will be happy that I stay with them.”
Tolisso has had an excellent season so far for Lyon. The midfielder, who has, at times, played as a false No.9, has seven goals in 17 appearances in all competitions. However, time is of the essence for him, with just one international break to go before the World Cup.
