Macaulay Langstaff has struggled during his time with the Lions
League Two promotion hopefuls Salford City are reportedly plotting an ambitious transfer move to secure the services of Millwall striker, Macaulay Langstaff.
That is according to Alan Nixon - via Patreon - with the update surfacing shortly after both the Ammies and Lions were involved in midweek action for differing reasons.
Langstaff's current employers are amongst a whole host of sides fighting it out in the enthralling battle for promotion in the Championship, but those hopes suffered a minor dent on Tuesday night as Alex Neil's side suffered a late defeat at the hands of second tier leaders, Coventry City.
After Mihailo Ivanovic initially responded to the Sky Blues' opener, which came through former Millwall winger and current Crystal Palace loanee Romain Esse, Frank Lampard's side eventually took all three crucial points when Haji Wright found the back of the net eight minutes from time.
Meanwhile, Salford were the final club to progress into the FA Cup fourth round after their initial fixture with fourth tier rivals, Swindon Town, was postponed on January 11th.
After facing off against Ian Holloway's side in league action just a matter of days ago, Karl Robinson's men secured a 3-2 victory at the Peninsula Stadium to set up their upcoming tie against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium - replicating last season's third round tie against Pep Guardiola's side, albeit the Reds will hope they are not on the receiving end of another 8-0 scoreline.
It has been well-documented that the Greater Manchester club are looking to make strides of progress under their high-profile ownership, which includes former Manchester United legends Gary Neville and David Beckham.
After only making the League Two play-offs on one occasion since breaking into the EFL back in May 2019, the experienced Robinson is looking to guide Salford into League One for the first time ever.
And, having already made one eye-catching transfer move this window to bolster his attacking department in the form of Ryan Graydon from Fleetwood Town, the former Oxford United boss could yet see another come to fruition between now and the transfer deadline of 7PM on Monday, February 2nd.

As previously mentioned, Langstaff has emerged as a transfer target for Salford, who are looking to continue flexing their financial muscles to gain a desired advantage over several promotion rivals in League Two, with 21 games of their league campaign still to play.
At present, Robinson's side are level on points with Swindon and Walsall on 46 points, and are only outside the automatic promotion places on goal difference, having played the same number of fixtures as the Robins and the Saddlers.
However, they are also only inside the play-off places by five points, with Chesterfield currently occupying the first spot outside the top seven with 41 points to their name, although the Spireites have played a game more than every one of the sides above them except for MK Dons.
Langstaff's previous spell in the National League and League Two with Notts County is what eventually earned him an initial £700,000 switch to The Den in the summer of 2024, but he has since endured an extremely mixed spell in South London.
The 28-year-old has only scored three times and provided two assists across 59 appearances under Neil Harris and Alex Neil, despite the fact the Lions have continued to push for the play-offs for the first time since 2002 at Championship level.
The former Gateshead hotshot was linked with a potential switch to Bristol Rovers in the summer, before a move to the Memorial Stadium failed to materialise.
However, after making 23 appearances for Millwall across all competitions so far this season, Nixon claims that Salford are readying an ambitious move for the striker's signature.
In a bid to lure the forward back to the fourth tier, the report claims that Langstaff could be offered as much as £10,000 per week in wages, which would be a statement of intent.

Despite appearing to be lacking in confidence with the Lions, there is no doubt that if that can be regained quickly at the Peninsula, Langstaff could help fire Salford to a first promotion in seven years.
In his only season at League Two level so far, the Stockton-on-Tees born man showcased that he was a cut above the rest with a record of 28 goals and four assists at Meadow Lane.
With the table remaining extremely tight, it could come down to goal difference as to whether Salford could secure automatic promotion or be involved in the play-offs yet again.
As such, this is a deal which could benefit all parties significantly.
