A screening of England vs Ghana at the Beeches Pub in Great Barr descended into chaos, with online footage showing fights and a man brandishing a large blade before a security guard charges him.

West Midlands Police said they were called to the venue on Thornbridge Avenue on Tuesday night, officers recovered a knife and no arrests have yet been made. The force is reviewing footage and working with the pub as part of its inquiry.

An attendee, who asked to remain anonymous for safety, took his family to one of their locals, which he considers family friendly. The night then spiralled into scrapping. He saw a man swinging a machete in the outdoor children’s play area before security rushed him, and questioned how such a weapon entered despite searches at the door.

He has heard children could be barred from the next screening, calling that a shame for a family venue but understandable. He considers it the right step.

Police have appealed for information. Anyone with details is asked to call 101 and quote log 5963 of June 23.
