Arsenal v Newcastle United in North London.
What an opportunity.
A positive result tonight and realistic hopes of a return to Wembley in March, 25 months after that Eddie Howe inspired journey in the 2022/23 season.
I think we would all take a draw in this first leg away from home BUT if Newcastle United could pull off a Magnificent Seven victory, that would be just another level.
Things change quickly in football, especially at this time of year.
Can you believe that if Newcastle United did make it seven wins in a row, then it will have been only 24 days after the first of those seven???
Yes, only 24 days since the 4-0 win over Leicester, followed by Brentford, Ipswich, Villa, Spurs and Man U.
What a run.
Reading what Arsenal fans are saying, the mood definitely isn’t buoyant ahead of tonight.
Some underperforming players and now Saka long-term injured.
The last six Premier League matches have seen Arsenal fail to beat Fulham, Brighton and Everton in three of them. Whilst their last home game was a struggle to win 1-0 against Ipswich.
None of this makes you think it is definitely a Newcastle win tonight BUT it certainly suggests possibilities against a more vulnerable looking Arsenal than usual at the Emirates.
Looking at their last 13 Premier League matches, Arsenal have failed to win a majority of them. Only six wins in the last 13 PL games, with five draws and two defeats – to Bournemouth and… Newcastle United.
In Newcastle United’s last 13 competitive matches, all against Premier League teams (in both league and cup), it has been a case of nine wins, two draws and just the two defeats.
That run of nine wins in the last 13 games, has included Eddie Howe’s side beating the likes of Chelsea, Spurs, Man U, Villa and… Arsenal.
Go out there tonight and if Newcastle United can play to the levels they have been doing, then I think NUFC will be really unlucky if they get beat. Whilst on the other hand, if playing well and any kind of luck going our way, why shouldn’t it end up a Magnificent Seven wins in a row for Newcastle United in only three and a half weeks?
