AC Milan said they won’t put pressure on Mike Maignan to sign a new contract, but defender Matteo Gabbia didn’t get the memo and is openly begging his goalkeeper to stay.
The France international is in a strange situation, as his current deal only runs to June 2026 and the Rossoneri turned down various offers to sell over the summer.
Director of sport Igli Tare revealed last week that the club had made a “pact” with him and his agents to wait until the end of the season and not “put pressure” on each other.

However, Milan defender Gabbia evidently does not agree with this strategy, as he is openly appealing for the goalkeeper to extend his stay.
“Please, sign,” he wrote on Maignan’s Instagram in response to a comment on the victory over Lazio.
There is no shortage of clubs ready to pounce on a free agent of such quality next summer, with Chelsea widely believed to be at the front of the queue.

He would be the second world class goalkeeper to leave Milan as a free agent after Gianluigi Donnarumma went to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.
Curiously, Maignan was the replacement for the Italy international, signed from Lille for €16.4m.
