English forward Jadon Sancho has left Manchester United for Chelsea on loan for the rest of the campaign, with an obligation to make the deal permanent included in the contract.
The Blues will buy the Manchester City academy graduate for an initial £20 million if they finish in the top-14 in the Premier League this season, with another £5m to come in add-ons based on performances.
Sancho has taken to social media platform Instagram to say his goodbyes to Man United and announce his Chelsea arrival, and the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Dele Alli and Alejandro Garnacho have reacted.
The future of the 24-year-old at the Old Trafford club all but ended on the day he took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to call manager Erik ten Hag a liar, and while they made up in the summer, it has not come as a surprise that he has been shipped off to Chelsea.
Sancho showed stints of his talent and huge potential upon his return to Borussia Dortmund on loan for the second half of last season, but he never got to prove his quality at Man United and will hope to do so at the Stamford Bridge club.
He is leaving the Red Devils after 12 goals and six assists in 83 appearances and it is safe to say he will not be missed, with the likes of Garnacho, Amad Diallo, Marcus Rashford and Antony all looking to impress this term.
Man United bought Sancho from Dortmund in a £73m deal in July 2021 and were looking to recoup a decent part of that fee this summer but have had to eventually settle for a third of it.
Getting his huge wages off their bill is good business for the Red Devils, and they could also get rid of their highest earner – Brazilian midfielder Casemiro – as Saudi Pro League clubs are still very much keen on recruiting his services ahead of their transfer deadline next week.
