Mainz defender Alexander Hack is set to move to Saudi Arabian second division side Al-Qadsiah for a reported €1.5m, according to BILD.

Hack is expected to sign a two-year contract, which will also make him the club’s most expensive signing in their history. The German will become Al-Qadsiah’s 13th signing under new manager and Liverpool legend, Robbie Fowler.

The centre-back played 133 times in the Bundesliga for Mainz across nine years, including 22 appearances last season.

Hack said goodbye to his teammates and the fans after Mainz’s 1-0 win against Elversberg in the DFB-Pokal cup first round: “It has become clear that I am leaving the club.

“It was an incredible time right from the start. I will always be a Mainzer.”

The 29-year-old also added that he no longer saw a future at Mainz and needs ‘more playing time.’

If Hack had remained in Mainz, the player would likely to have found playing time difficult to find with the loan signing of Liverpool’s Sepp van den Berg while Edimilson Fernandes and Andreas Hanche-Olsen also provide competition in central-defence.
