kicker reports that ahead of the transfer deadline on Friday, Mainz and Wolfsburg are in talks over central defender Moritz Jenz.
Despite featuring heavily for Wolfsburg last season, Jenz is deemed as surplus to requirements at the club and has been linked with a move to Hoffenheim earlier in the window. Now there are talks about a possible loan move to the MEWA Arena.
However, a move can only happen if Maxence Lacroix leaves the club. If the Frenchman does leave then Wolfsburg need to find a replacement, if they can’t find a replacement in time then Jenz will have to stay. If they do find a replacement he can leave. Wolfsburg already have options at centre-back after the arrivals of Mathys Angely from Bordeaux and Konstantinos Koulierakis from PAOK. Some other potential candidates are Union Berlin’s Danilho Doekhi and Club Brugge’s Jorne Spileers.
For Mainz, they failed in their attempt to bring Sepp van den Berg back to the Bundesliga, so need additional reinforcements in defence.
