Former TSG Hoffenheim defender Stefan Posch has completed his return to the Bundesliga.
On Thursday morning, Mainz confirmed the signing of the Austrian international, who joins on loan from Italian side Como on loan for the rest of the season.
“Stefan Posch is an experienced centre-back who is strong in challenges and possesses a lot of quality,” said Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert.
“He can be deployed both as a central defender and as a full-back. He has already demonstrated his ability in the Bundesliga as well as abroad in Italy and is exactly the type of defensive reinforcement we need heading into the second half of the season.
“We’re delighted to have him here, as he is fully committed to our objective of staying in the league.”
Posch is hoping to help 17th-placed Mainz climb out of the relegation zone.
“I’m really looking forward to the task here at Mainz and can’t wait to get out on the pitch with my new teammates,” he said.
“The top priority, of course, is to get out of the relegation zone as quickly as possible and give everything we have to remain in the league. I’m confident we can achieve that, and I’m looking forward to doing my part to help.”
