Dominik Kohr has received a three-match ban and a €15,000 fine in a single-judge proceeding following his sending-off for “violent play.”
The German Football Association (DFB) made the decision on Monday following the Mainz defender's red card last Friday, 21 November.
During the 1-1 draw against TSG Hoffenheim, Kohr committed a brutal studs-up tackle which caught Max Moerstedt's shin.
Referee Sascha Stegemann, after a VAR intervention, had no choice but to upgrade the yellow card to a red in the 88th-minute.
With it being his ninth sending-off in his career, Kohr set a new Bundesliga record, surpassing Jens Nowotny and Luiz Gustavo (8 each).
The 31-year-old will therefore miss their upcoming games against SC Freiburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayern Munich.
Kohr will once again be eligible to return for the relegation battle against FC St. Pauli on Sunday, 21 December.
