FSV Mainz 05 loanee Stefan Posch suffered a broken jaw during Austria’s 3-1 win over Jordan, a blow at the start of the 2026 World Cup.
According to BuLi News, coach Ralf Rangnick had warned the damage could potentially end his tournament, but a CT scan later showed surgery is not required.
That assessment eased earlier fears for the defender.
Austria now have hope he could return sooner than expected.
A custom mouth guard is being made for the 29-year-old to protect the area during recovery.
His involvement in the next Group J match against Argentina depends on how quickly that guard can be produced.
