Mainz sign Peruvian international Fabio Gruber from Nürnberg

Mainz have completed the signing of Peruvian international Fabio Gruber from 2. Bundesliga side 1. FC Nürnberg, the club announced.

The centre-back was captain at Nürnberg, and Mainz saw off interest from his former club Augsburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach to secure the deal.

Augsburg-born Gruber has featured in five of Peru's last six matches after receiving his first call-up at the end of 2025.

The 23-year-old previously wore the armband for 3. Liga outfit Verl and for a side coached by Miroslav Klose, despite short spells at both clubs.

He now steps into the Bundesliga with Mainz.
