Bild reports that Mainz striker Nelson Weiper is slowly making a name for himself as he garners interest from clubs across Europe.
Liverpool are the only named club to have previously shown an interest in the 18-year-old. Over the past two years, the club has tried bringing Weiper to England. Weiper is seen as one of the players who can save Germany from their lack of a quality out-and-out striker.
Weiper’s current contract expires in 2025 and the aim at Mainz is to develop the play to a point where they can sell him for close to €50m.
The striker is set to play more next season for Mainz as game time is key for his development. Weiper is ready to fight for his place in the first team and in his cameos last season he has shown he is capable. Against Borussia Mönchengladbach, Weiper became Mainz’s youngest goalscorer with his last goal in Mainz’s 4-0 win. The 18-year-old would score again against Werder Bremen.
