Eintracht Frankfurt visit Mainz 05 on Saturday seeking their first Bundesliga win of the season in the Rhine-Main derby at the Mewa Arena. Mainz reach matchday three in fifth after taking four points from two games.
BuLi News previews the derby.
Urs Fischer’s side drew 0-0 with Paderborn, then thrashed Hamburger SV 5-0 away. Sheraldo Becker and Phillipp Mwene scored before the break, Phillip Tietz added a brace and Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer completed the scoring.
Those results delivered back-to-back clean sheets, with Mainz the only Bundesliga side yet to concede and still unbeaten. They have lost just one of 18 Bundesliga home games against Frankfurt, including a 2-1 win in March.
Mainz absentees are Dominik Kohr, Silvan Widmer, Paul Nebel and Silas. Eric Martel is close but not ready, while Robin Zentner is set to return in goal.
Adi Hütter’s second spell began with an 11-0 DFB-Pokal win over SC St. Tonis, but the league start has stumbled. Frankfurt let a 3-1 lead slip in a draw with Union Berlin, then lost 4-1 to Augsburg after going ahead again, leaving them 13th.
Frankfurt are winless in five Bundesliga trips to Mainz, four of them draws, and are chasing a first away success in this fixture since a 2-0 victory in January 2021. Team news, Jessic Ngankam remains out, with Nnamdi Collins and Ansgar Knauff progressing, though Knauff is not yet in team training.
