Inter Milan may have to do without Marcus Thuram in the Coppa Italia final against Lazio, with the Frenchman picking up an injury in training.
The Nerazzurri, who have already secured their 21st Scudetto title at the start of the month, are eyeing their first domestic double since 2010, when they won the historic treble under Jose Mourinho.
Cristian Chivu, who was part of the Special One’s squad, has a golden opportunity to achieve glory, with only the Biancocelesti standing between him and total domestic domination. However, the Romanian manager was dealt a painful blow in Monday’s training session.
According to several sources, including La Gazzetta dello Sport, Thuram was forced to stop after picking up his knock. The 28-year-old will undergo the necessary clinical tests on Tuesday to determine the extent of his injury.
While waiting for further confirmation, FcInterNews believes that the France international has been virtually ruled out of the Coppa Italia, as he’s unlikely to fully recover by Wednesday. This would be a painful blow for Inter, as Thuram had been on fine form recently. Although he didn’t score in Saturday’s dress rehearsal against Lazio, he provided the assist for Lautaro Martinez’s opener.
It remains to be seen if Francesco Pio Esposito will be fit enough to start alongside his Argentine captain in Chivu’s 3-5-2 formation. Otherwise, Yoan Ange Bonny will get the nod. The former Parma striker set up the assist for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who scored Inter’s third goal at the weekend.
