Wolves could still strengthen in two attacking areas before the summer transfer window closes on September 1.

Wolves have made an encouraging start back in the Championship, but there is still room for improvement across the squad before Tuesday's transfer deadline.

Cesar Peixoto has already welcomed Kieran Trippier, Raul Jimenez, Rafiki Said and Jordan James to Molineux, but the Old Gold have avoided the major exodus and reset that was expected following relegation from the Premier League.

In their opening two, Wolves have drawn with Blackburn and dispatched Preston 3-1 at Deepdale, with the latter result easing some of the concerns raised after opening night.

But the mood among the fanbase is hardly one of relaxation, with the worry being that Wolves will waste yet another window under Fosun, despite the promises made by new chairman Nathan Shi earlier this summer.

Now, with the window closing on Tuesday, they appear to have identified two areas to bolster as Peixoto aims to guide the club back to the top flight.

As per Liam Keen and the Inside Wolves Substack, Wolves are looking at adding both a right-winger and a third striker before the window closes.

Any addition could be influenced by the Championship's homegrown rules, which require seven homegrown players in the 20-man matchday squad, while the ability to complete further business may also depend on departures.

Adam Armstrong has made himself a factor in altering the club's thinking, with the forward impressing out on the right when linking up with Jimenez during the Preston win.

Looking to put together the goalscoring form seen elsewhere, Armstrong came off the bench to score Wolves' second goal at Deepdale.

Keen also reports that the Old Gold are not looking to strengthen at centre-back, with Peixoto said to be content with the options in that department, whilst Santi Bueno and Ladislav Krejci will only leave if suitable offers arrive.

Elsewhere, both Hugo Bueno and David Moller Wolfe look set to remain, and Boubacar Traore is also likely to stay after a bid worth around £2.6 million from Anderlecht was rejected.

As mentioned, Wolves' ability to make moves may depend on departures, and Sam Johnstone, Hwang Hee-chan, Sasa Kalajdzic and Enso Gonzalez remain on the list of players available for a move.

Despite a much better performance and result against Preston, frustration remains around Molineux, with Wolves Fancast calling for further action from supporters on Wednesday.

This feeling has been echoed by other supporters, who say the club has no excuses for how it has prepared for the second tier.

However, there has been a positive reaction to the recent update regarding Traore, with the midfielder potentially staying after impressing against Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup on Tuesday.

"I'd like it to work out for Traore," said one fan on X. "A good squad player and if he is happy to play that role, then great. He looked a lot more mature and less erratic so far in what we have seen this season."

"Do not sell him please," added another supporter. "He's a very useful player to have around."

And, with days left of the window, Wolves could be keeping hold of the Mali international, though whoever comes in through the door wil really make the difference for the frustrated fanbase.

When Vitor Pereira was sacked at the back end of 2025, Wolves began their preparations for the Championship by hiring someone with a promotion on his CV in Rob Edwards, while the signing of second-tier expert Armstrong looked to be the perfect piece of groundwork.

However, supporters have not seen the rebuild envisaged before the summer, and given the volatile relationship between the fans and Fosun, it was never going to take much for similar feelings to arise again.

The current squad is still very strong for the Championship, but Wolves need to look to the future, as they did during the 2017/18 promotion campaign.

Supporters do not trust the hierarchy when it comes to transfers; that has been the case for a long time at Molineux. Promotion is the immediate aim, but laying the foundations for the future also has to be considered, and that has not quite panned out as expected for the fanbase.
