“Makes me feel uncomfortable” Arsenal icon does not like the treatment of Martinelli

Gabriel Martinelli has not been in Arsenal’s squad for their matches against Manchester City and Coventry City, as it seems clear that the Gunners would like him to leave this summer.

Martinelli has been a key part of the squad under Mikel Arteta, and he would love to continue playing for the team. However, the Gunners feel the time has come for him to leave so they can sign a better player for his position.

Ian Wright has watched as Martinelli was omitted from the Arsenal squad for the first two competitive games of the season, and he is not happy with how the Gunners have handled his departure.

They are making it obvious that he is not part of their plans for the upcoming season, but Wright does not think they have handled the situation well so far and appears to expect better treatment of the Brazilian.

Wright unhappy with Martinelli treatment

Martinelli has not improved significantly in the last few seasons, but he has certainly played his part in Arsenal’s evolution into one of the top clubs on the continent. Wright would therefore have expected him to be treated differently, even if he is no longer in the club’s plans.

The Brazilian has consistently worked hard for the Gunners and has produced important moments during his time at the club. His current situation therefore appears difficult for Wright to accept, particularly given Martinelli’s contribution to Arsenal.

The winger now faces an uncertain future, with Arsenal seemingly determined to find a solution before the transfer window closes.

Wright praises Martinelli’s contribution

He said via the Daily Mail:

‘In respects to Martinelli and the way Martinelli has been treated at the moment it really makes me feel uncomfortable.

‘Because he always gives 100 per cent, I’m not saying he’s the greatest, he’s really come up with some big moments for Arsenal, some big games, he’s scored some very important goals.’

Wright’s comments highlight the respect he still has for Martinelli despite the winger’s uncertain future. Arsenal may believe that moving him on is the right decision for the squad, but the manner of his omission has clearly disappointed Wright.

Martinelli will now have to wait and see where his future lies. Arsenal want to reshape their squad, but the Brazilian has already shown that he can make valuable contributions, leaving Wright concerned about how the club are handling his situation.
