‘Making An Attempt’ – Man City Now Trying To Get Ahead Of Tottenham For Cody Gakpo | OneFootball

Manchester City are now actively ‘making an attempt’ to get ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo.

Dutchman Gakpo has been chased by Tottenham for much of the summer amid indications he would welcome a move to north London.

Roberto De Zerbi has been looking at Gakpo as part of a new-look frontline which would also include Savinho and Omar Marmoush, both from Manchester City.

Spurs have already seen an offer of £60m for Gakpo turned down by Liverpool, but are plotting to return.

They now though face a major threat to their plans to sign Gakpo, with Manchester City holding an interest in the attacker.

And Manchester City are not hanging around as, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, they are now ‘making an attempt’ as they try to get ahead of Tottenham for him.

Manchester City believe that Gakpo would fit the bill as an addition and want to get in ahead of Tottenham to agree terms with Liverpool.

Liverpool are under no pressure to cash in on Gakpo and it is unclear just what level of fee they want to sanction his exit.

The Reds are chasing Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola as their key winger target and there have been encouraging noises from France about the deal happening.

The Reds want another winger too, which could be essential to sanction Gakpo’s exit.

PSG’s Ibrahim Mbaye has agreed terms on a move to Anfield, but Liverpool are unwilling to meet the French club’s asking price for him.

They have also tried to sign Yankuba Minteh from Brighton, however the Seagulls have knocked back a proposal from Merseyside.

And Liverpool’s winger business is sure to be key to whether or not the door is opened for Gakpo.

Manchester City though are pushing now and will want to get a Gakpo deal done to make sure they can hold off Tottenham’s efforts to land the Dutchman.
