Reports in Italy claim that Paolo Maldini is still not convinced about the FIGC’s offer to become Italy’s technical director, while Antonio Conte and Roberto Mancini remain the leading candidates for the coaching job.
FIGC President Malagò is still working to build the Italy national team staff with a new technical director seen as the stepping stone of his project.
Malagò was only elected last week, but Italian media have extensively reported on his desire to include Maldini in his project, before even picking the new Azzurri head coach.
According to Corriere della Sera (via TMW), Malagò recently reached out to Maldini once more, but the former defender remains unsure about the offer coming from the Head of the Italian Football Federation.
There could be another contact today, bearing in mind that SportMediaset already reported last week that Maldini seemed reluctant to get the job.
At the same time, Conte and Mancini remain the leading candidates for the coaching job, with the ex-Napoli boss reportedly backed by Serie A clubs.

Conte, however, demands a salary of at least €4m per season, the same he earned in his previous stint as Italy’s head coach.
Mancini, on the other hand, would reportedly accept a salary of circa €2.5m per season.
