Paolo Maldini sent his best to his former club Milan, who celebrated their 125th anniversary over the weekend, but the legendary ex-Rossoneri defender and former technical director decided against attending the festivities in-person.
‘Happy birthday for your 125th year,” Maldini wrote in a post on Instagram. “Nobody can ever undermine your bond with the Maldini family, history and memories,” he continued.

Maldini made a club-record 902 appearances for the club across a 25-year playing career. His father Cesare turned out 483 times for the Rossoneri. Paolo’s sons Daniel and Christian Maldini both represented Milan’s youth teams. Daniel is now excelling in Serie A with Monza.
The post has drawn responses from several Rossoneri players past and present, including Rafael Leao, Theo Hernandez, Mike Maignan, Davide Calabria and Riccardo Montolivo.
Reports over the weekend suggested that Maldini had rejected an invitation to attend the club’s anniversary celebrations in-person.
Maldini was sacked as technical director on June 6, 2023, along with fellow director Ricky Massara, just over a year after Milan had won their most recent Scudetto.
