After one minute, the match was under way. At four minutes, Lecce 0-1 Roma, Donyell Malen scored after defensive errors, a poor clearance reached Hermoso, he found Dybala, then Danilo Veiga presented Malen with the chance.

At nine minutes, a Lecce set play ended with a header over the bar. Roma then broke, Dybala flashed an angled drive across the face and Malen tried to connect with his hand, earning a booking.

At 12 minutes, Roma should have doubled it, as Soulé shot straight at Falcone from a Kone assist.

Roma were forced into a late change when Evan N’Dicka suffered a right thigh adductor issue in the warm-up. Daniele Ghilardi came in, with Gianluca Mancini central, Hermoso left and Ghilardi right.
