Malick Fofana to remain in Lyon in case of Champions League qualification

Belgium international winger Malick Fofana (21) would be keen on remaining in Lyon for another campaign should Paulo Fonseca’s Les Gones qualify for the UEFA Champions League, according to Sacha Tavolieri. Lyon will learn their European fate on Wednesday as they host Fenerbahçe in a make-or-break Champions League playoffs return leg. Both sides are on equal terms after this week’s 1-1 draw in Turkey. Should they lose on Wednesday, Lyon would play in the Europa League group stage.

Tavolieri adds that Fofana’s decision appears to be clear, with only nine days left for this summer’s transfer window. The Belgian was on the scoresheet on Saturday with Lyon winning 2-0 against Toulouse, despite Fonseca making wholesome changes in anticipation of Wednesday’s home clash against Fenerbahçe. The report understands that Fofana would entertain an exit at the end of the season.
