Malick Yalcouye has been left out of Brighton’s Conference League squad. The 20-year-old scored on his full Premier League debut in Sunday’s 4-3 defeat at Chelsea. Kaoru Mitoma, Yankuba Minteh and Mats Wieffer are also omitted.
Head coach Fabian Hurzeler called the selection complicated, noting UEFA require a squad to be named now and that scenarios could still change. He said there remains a chance Yalcouye might be involved in games under the regulations.
Up to 25 players can be named on the A list, with an unlimited B list. At least four club-trained players are required, defined as three seasons between ages 15 and 21. Yalcouye does not qualify, having joined from IFK Gothenburg in July 2024.
UEFA allow emergency replacements for long-term injuries or illness until 10.59pm UK time the day before a tie. The absence must last 60 days for outfield players or 30 for goalkeepers. Clubs may change up to three players between the league phase and the knockouts.
Yalcouye played in both legs of Brighton’s 4-0 aggregate win over Tromso in the play-off round. Brighton begin at home to Kauno Zalgiris on October 15, with further group games against Universitatea Craiova, Monaco, Jablonec, Getafe and Panathinaikos.
