Having represented France at youth level, Mamadou Diakhon has chosen to play for the Lions of Teranga. The 20-year-old Club Brugge forward received competing call-ups on Thursday.

According to L'Équipe, Gérald Baticle first named him in the France Under-21s squad, then minutes later Senegal selected him for their senior team, who are without Sadio Mané through injury.

Diakhon signalled his decision on Instagram, sharing a story image of himself in a Senegal shirt. The post left little doubt about his preference.

Senegal's final camp before the World Cup features Peru in Paris on 28 March, then Gambia in Diamniadio three days later.

Earlier on Thursday, Kader Meïté, who had been fast-tracked into France's Under-21s, also opted to represent another nation. The Al-Hilal forward chose Côte d'Ivoire.

France Under-21s will face Luxembourg and Iceland on 26 and 30 March in Euro qualifying.
