Mamelodi Sundowns continue negotiations with Ribeiro Costa!
A significant contractual dispute has emerged between Mamelodi Sundowns and their Brazilian attacker, Lucas Ribeiro Costa. The club has confirmed its willingness to re-enter transfer discussions, despite having previously rejected an initial bid of approximately R61 million from Qatari side Qatar SC.
The situation escalated this week when the reigning PSL Footballer of the Season formally requested the termination of his contract with the South African champions. The matter has now been escalated to the FIFA Tribunal for a ruling. Ribeiro is being represented by renowned Belgian lawyer Jean-Louis Dupont, who famously pioneered the landmark Bosman ruling in 1995.
Dupont has publicly stated that his client is keen on a move to Qatar SC, whose offer substantially surpassed the player's current market valuation of €2.5 million. The proposed transfer fee was reported to be in the region of $3.5 million. Ribeiro's current contract with Sundowns is set to expire in June 2028.
