The remarkable career trajectory of Ronwen Williams continues its upward climb, with the Mamelodi Sundowns custodian once again earning a prestigious nomination for the CAF Goalkeeper of the Year award. This recognition serves as a fitting tribute to what has been an unforgettable 2024/25 campaign for the 33-year-old.
Williams stood as an impenetrable fortress for Kabo Yellow during their impressive CAF Champions League journey. His string of world-class interventions was a primary reason the team advanced to the final, consistently keeping their dream of a second continental title alive. Beyond his reflexes, his composed demeanor and organizational skills provided the foundation for the Tshwane giants' dominance on both the domestic and African fronts.
This continental success was preceded by a performance for the ages on the international stage. At Afcon 2023, the Gqeberha-born goalkeeper authored a historic chapter for Bafana Bafana, propelling them to a bronze-medal finish. His legendary displays in penalty shootouts against Cape Verde and DR Congo instantly cemented his place in South African football folklore.
Further solidifying his influence, Williams was also instrumental in securing South Africa's ticket to the expanded 2026 FIFA Club World Cup.
