Mohamed Salah's Liverpool exit is something that most fans didn't think they'd have to deal with until June 2027.
However, after the many fallings out that the Egyptian King had with Arne Slot during the 2025-26 campaign, he chose to end his contract early and seek pastures new.
After this happened, most people thought that Slot was here to stay but, somewhat surprisingly, Fenway Sports Group sacked him upon the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
This left the Reds' fanbase rather bewildered as, if given the option, most fans would have chosen to keep Salah over Slot.
However, that clearly wasn't meant to be and now, Liverpool have dug themselves a rather deep hole that could cost them an awful lot of money to get out of.
Salah is undoubtedly one of Liverpool's best ever attackers.
He outlasted many players such as Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho and he even managed to put on the best performance of his career during the Reds' 2024-25 title winning season.
However, since Slot chose to change things up and not play to his strengths in the 2025-26 campaign, his numbers plummeted which made him look a lot worse than he actually was.
He's obviously left Liverpool now which means a new player needs to be brought in to replace him and, as per an update from La Gazzetta dello Sport, a deal for one of the Reds' long-term targets could cost them at least €140 million in transfer fees alone.
"Real Madrid has poured cold water on the fire with an official statement denying direct or indirect contact with Michael's agent and reaffirming their excellent relationship (as well as mutual respect) with the Bavarians," they wrote.
"At the end of the World Cup, however, an attempt will be made, and much will depend on Olise's willingness: whether he pushes for a transfer, an offer in the range of €120-€140 million will be necessary."
No matter who Liverpool bring in, they're going to have a tough time filling Salah's shoes.
The Egyptian King has been one of the Premier League's top wingers for the best part of a decade and, the fact that he still managed to have 22 goal contributions last year proves how good he actually is.
Yan Diomande would've been an ideal addition but, from the very start, Michael Olise has been Liverpool's dream.
Indeed, Bayern have shut down any possibility of the 24-year-old leaving but, if a bid worth €140 million (£119 million) was put in, it's likely that the Bundesliga outfit would at least hear the Reds out.
And, even though the fee to bring him to Anfield would already be high, Liverpool would probably have to offer him Salah-esque wages to convince him to return to the Premier League.
The Egypt international was on €20 million-per-year so, over the course of a five-year deal, Olise could cost Liverpool another €100 million, bringing the total cost of the deal up to €240 million.
Of course, this would be an enormous investment from FSG but, since the Frenchman contributed to 53 goals from the right-wing during the 2025-26 season, he's clearly the perfect player for Liverpool.
