Manchester City are among a group of elite European clubs monitoring RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, with the 19-year-old emerging as one of the most coveted teenagers in world football following a breakout Bundesliga season, as per a new report from Germany.
Yan Diomande has been the subject of intense and growing speculation throughout the summer window, with his performances for Leipzig having attracted the attention of clubs across Europe and placed him firmly among the most discussed young wingers in the transfer market ahead of what promises to be a defining summer for his future.
Manchester City’s search for a new winger has been one of the recurring threads of their summer planning, with director of football Hugo Viana and manager Enzo Maresca having identified the position as a priority area for reinforcement – and Diomande’s profile as a direct, dynamic, chance-creating wide player mapping closely to the attributes the club have made clear they are seeking.

Liverpool have gone the furthest of any interested party so far, submitting an official bid for Diomande that Leipzig have since rejected – a development that has only intensified the sense of competition among the clubs circling the teenager as the window continues.
Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea are also among the clubs to have indicated an interest in Diomande alongside Manchester City, with the breadth of Europe’s elite clubs pursuing the same target a reflection of how highly he is regarded as one of the most exciting attacking talents to emerge from the Bundesliga in recent years.
As reported by SportBILD and relayed by Sport Witness, Europe’s top clubs have been contacting Leipzig, the Red Bull group and Diomande’s agents almost daily in recent weeks, with the level of sustained interest underlining the degree to which the 19-year-old has captured the imagination of the continent’s most powerful recruitment operations.
According to SportBILD’s information, no club currently pursuing Diomande – including Manchester City – is prepared to pay more than £84 million for the winger this summer, a ceiling that falls significantly short of Leipzig’s valuation, which the German club have set in excess of £101 million in the hope of extracting an offer that meets their lofty expectations.
That gap between buyer and seller has effectively led Leipzig to shift their strategy, with the club now understood to be focused on tying Diomande to a new contract – including a pay rise – rather than engaging with offers that fall short of their stated figure.
The situation is further complicated by the player himself, who is reported to have given assurances to various suitors that he intends to join them – a commitment extended to Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United simultaneously, leaving all three clubs under the impression that they are in “pole position” for his signature while Diomande has also indicated a willingness to stay at Leipzig for a further season if no move materialises.
Manchester City enter European royal rumble for high-flying RB Leipzig winger
The confusion surrounding Diomande’s intentions is the defining feature of a situation that, for the moment at least, appears unlikely to reach a resolution unless a club is willing to break the £84 million ceiling and meet Leipzig’s valuation in full – a scenario that City’s approach to recruitment this summer suggests they are not currently inclined to pursue given the figures involved.
Viana has demonstrated throughout the summer window that Manchester City are willing to pay record fees where they judge the player and the circumstances to warrant it – as evidenced by the £116 million Anderson deal – but the £84 million ceiling SportBILD report for all suitors suggests the club do not currently regard Diomande as a target that justifies exceeding that threshold, at least not at this stage of the window.
The Diomande situation is also one that sits alongside rather than replacing the other wide attacking options Viana and Maresca are weighing up as the summer window progresses, with Francisco Trincão‘s situation at Sporting Lisbon representing another live avenue that the club have been exploring simultaneously.
Whether Leipzig’s stance softens, or whether Diomande himself ultimately pushes harder for a move to one of his stated suitors, will determine how the situation develops in the coming weeks – but for now, Manchester City’s interest remains one element of a broader and ongoing search for the right wide attacker to complete Maresca’s first squad at the Etihad Stadium.
