Manchester City Director of Football Hugo Viana has called record signing Enzo Fernandez the ‘complete midfielder’.
City completed the £125m signing of Fernandez from Chelsea on deadline day, setting a new club record and equalling the British transfer record fee.
The move concluded a summer-long saga for the Argentina international, as ex-Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca looked to re-sign his former favourite.
Fernandez completes a remarkable rebuild for City in midfield, following the earlier additions of Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi.
Speaking at the 25-year-old’s unveiling, Viana hailed Fernandez as a ‘world-class player’ and the ‘complete midfielder’.
“At Manchester City, we are always looking to bring in world-class players and Enzo fits the bill,” the club’s Director of Football said.
“He is a complete midfielder: technically gifted, hardworking, tenacious and a goalscorer.
“He is adept at playing different styles of football. He is comfortable playing a possession-based game, and he can play on the counter effectively, too.
“To have played in two World Cup finals and won major trophies in multiple countries at just 25 says everything you need to know about his mentality, professionalism and technical quality.
