The Nerazzurri were firm at the back and managed to threaten the Cityzens with a flurry of counterattacks.

However, Simone Inzaghi’s men couldn’t find the back of the net, and neither did the English champions despite a late onslaught.

So in the end, the two sides shared the spoils on the back of a goalless draw.

After the match. Pep Guardiola noted how playing against Inter is always a difficult task. For his part, Akanji echoed his manager’s assessment.

“I agree with Pep’s words, it is indeed difficult to play against Inter,” said the Switzerland international in his post-match interview with Prime Video via FcInterNews.

“They are a very good team, they play very well in defense leaving little space. It is not easy to play against them.”

The former Borussia Dortmund defender insisted Inter didn’t reach the Champions League final in 2022/23 by chance.

“It is no coincidence that we played against the Nerazzurri in the final two years ago.

“Last season, they went out early against Atletico Madrid but they have shown that they always play excellent football,” concluded Akanji.”

Inter had also put up a strong showing against Man City in the 2023 final in Istanbul. However, Rodri’s strike in the second half sealed the Cityzens’ first-ever European triumph.
