Man City give Liverpool a MASSIVE Trent Alexander-Arnold contract boost | OneFootball

Whilst the Trent Alexander-Arnold contract saga rolls on, Real Madrid are seemingly starting to get frustrated.

The situation has become more stark for the Spanish giants, not least of all because of Dani Carvajal’s ACL injury. The lack of structure or true leadership from that position has certainly contributed to their visible struggles.

And whilst Trent obviously would be a fantastic signing for them, as has been established, it’s not exactly a cut and dry decision. He is a local lad playing for arguably the best team in the world right now, and any decision on his future will involve that.

As a result, Madrid are starting to look elsewhere. The Daily Mirror are reporting that they have lodged some interest in Tottenham’s Pedro Porro.

Porro’s display against Manchester City yesterday will have done nothing to harm Madrid’s interest in his services. He dispatched Spurs’ third goal emphatically, dominating the right-hand side as the Londoners cantered to a devastating victory over the title holders.

As a result, Spurs have put a £58m price tag on his head in the belief that Madrid wouldn’t be willing to pay it.

Manchester United are also keen on Porro’s services, but with the Spaniard’s contract running until 2028 and Tottenham’s desire to keep him in north London, a deal might prove difficult to strike.

Why would Madrid sign Porro over Alexander-Arnold?

The report further claims that Madrid are of the belief that they have a better chance at signing Porro than Alexander-Arnold, however, believing Porro to be better defensively and having a greater desire to join the club than Trent does at the minute.

We’re not going to urge Madrid not to pursue this one. Porro has the most goals and assists by a Premier League defender since February 11th 2023, as evidenced by this post by Amazon Prime Video Sport on Twitter (no, we don’t get it either). Trent is second, obviously.

Real Madrid’s recent claim that they’d like to recruit more Spanish players also has a part to play here, and almost certainly coincides with their interest in Porro.

So whilst Trent would be a cheaper option for them, the time he is taking to weigh up his options at the moment is seemingly putting Madrid off his scent.
