The champions could be without up to nine players for Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is unsure over the severity of Savinho’s injury after the winger was stretchered off during Wednesday’s 2-1 Carabao Cup fourth round loss at Tottenham.

The Brazilian appeared to pick up the problem after attempting to cross the ball just before the hour mark in north London, having seemingly put too much weight on his right ankle, and received treatment for several minutes before being substituted.

Guardiola told Sky Sports: "He had a knock in the 18-yard box, potential penalty, and we'll see tomorrow what happened... We have to see if it just a knock or something else, because it was on the bone. Hopefully it's nothing dangerous, but we'll see [on Thursday].

Josko Gvardiol also needed attention on the pitch after the final whistle but his manager had no update on the defender, adding: “Everyone was on the table having a massage, so he was too busy.”

City also suffered a blow before kick-off, with Manuel Akanji being forced out of the line-up with a knock. He joined Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku in missing the loss in north London, as well as long-term absentees Rodri and Oscar Bobb.

The Premier League leaders and defending champions are next in action on Saturday when they travel to the south coast to face Bournemouth, but they could now be without up to nine first-team players.
