Manchester City are prepared to launch an opening bid for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, per BBC Sport.
City haven’t given up pursuit of the 25-year-old despite missing Chelsea’s deadline to complete a deal earlier this month at a minimum fee of £120m.
The Citizens’ midfield has undergone significant changes this summer.
Bernardo Silva left on a free transfer at the end of June. Tijjani Reijnders has been sold to Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah for £52m, while Rodri has joined Barcelona for £65m.
Nico Gonzalez is now poised to complete a switch to Newcastle United after agreeing a £52m deal.
City signed Elliot Anderson for a club-record £116m fee before recently announcing Ayyoub Bouaddi’s arrival.
The Manchester giants now look set their sights on Fernandez. But a move for the Argentina international means they would have to break their transfer record in the same window.
New manager Enzo Maresca is keen to reunite with the midfielder after working closely with him during his time at Chelsea.
Fernandez has significantly enhanced his reputation since joining the Blues from Benfica in 2023.
He has made 170 appearances across all competitions, bagging 31 goals and 30 assists in the process.
Fernandez is a world-class midfielder who is renowned for his passing range, tactical intelligence and ability to control the game’s tempo.
