Premier League heavyweights Manchester City have positioned themselves in the race for a headline member of the summer transfer shortlist at Spanish champions Barcelona.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Joan García as the player in question.

Goalkeeper Joan is of course a man in demand ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Fresh off a spectacular season with Espanyol last time out, the 24-year-old is widely expected to be on the move before the summer is out.

A whole host of clubs have been tipped as potential landing spots for Joan, with the aforementioned Barcelona having been labelled widespread favourites over the course of the last week.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media on Friday is anything to go by, then the Blaugrana are facing up to fresh competition in the Joan sweepstakes.

As per Sport, citing Spanish outlet COPE, despite claims to the contrary over recent days, Newcastle United remain in the hunt for the talented shot-stopper.

And the Magpies are not the only English club keen, with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City also giving serious consideration to an upcoming offer for Joan.
