Manchester City are reportedly eyeing up Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, who has also been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea, as a potential replacement for Erling Haaland, whose long-term future is seemingly in some doubt.

The Sweden international has been a revelation during his time in the Portuguese top flight, and it’s not too surprising to see that Man City have now apparently identified him as an ideal like-for-like replacement for Haaland, according to a report from Fichajes.

The report suggests that Haaland’s long-term future at the Etihad Stadium is not looking guaranteed, so it may be that the Norway international will soon move on for a new challenge after already achieving so much in a relatively short time as a City player.

Gyokeres is supposedly on the radar of clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea, as per HITC, so it won’t necessarily be easy to win the race for his signature any time soon.

Viktor Gyokeres transfer to replace Erling Haaland?

City fans will no doubt hope Haaland stays at the club, but if not then Gyokeres seems ideal to play a similar role in Pep Guardiola’s attack.

Still, Arsenal could also probably do with signing a new striker in the near future as they’re a little overly reliant on Kai Havertz in that role at the moment, with not much in the way of an alternative after Eddie Nketiah’s exit in the summer and Gabriel Jesus’ struggles with fitness and form.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have Nicolas Jackson in fine form right now, but might do well to consider Gyokeres as an upgrade to really help them become more of a serious contender in the race for a top four place.

City is surely the most tempting project, though, so it will be interesting to follow what happens with Haaland in the months ahead and how that might impact the future of Gyokeres.
