Manchester City youngster Oscar Bobb revealed Pep Guardiola told him to score before coming off the bench to net a late winner against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

The visitors took a first-half lead through Bernardo Silva before two superb strikes from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon in quick succession saw the Magpies go ahead.

Kevin De Bruyne equalised for Man City after being subbed on, and followed that up with the assist for Bobb to score in injury time for the first Premier League goal of his career.

“Amazing feeling,” the 20-year-old told TNT Sports. “Just watching from the bench, it was a high tempo match. The manager told me to come on and score so thankfully I could.

“It’s a lifelong dream and to do it with the best team in the world, I can’t describe it. This win is for the fans.”

Despite a five-month layoff due to injury, De Bruyne showed he hasn’t lost a step as he provided a defence-splitting pass to the Norwegian for the decisive goal.

“I said thank you to him after,” Bobb added. “He’s the only one in the world who could do that. To play with him is great.

“Not only one of the greatest players in the Premier League, he’s a very nice guy. He helps the young guys a lot.”
