Manchester City host Wolves this weekend needing a reaction after a shock defeat in the Champions League in midweek.

Pep Guardiola’s side were stunned by Bodo/Glimt 3-1 in the Arctic Circle to throw their hopes of automatic progression into the knockout stages into jeopardy.

Rodri saw red in a game that prompted the City players to refund supporters and issue an apology statement.

They have lost footing in the Premier League title race, too, falling seven points adrift of pace-setters Arsenal, while Aston Villa had leapfrogged them into second place before their defeat by Everton over the weekend.

As for Wolves, Rob Edwards’ side are looking to pull off the great escape with 16 games to go.

The Black Country outfit are 14 points adrift at the bottom, having picked up just eight points in their 22 games played this term.

Their form has picked up in recent weeks, however, with a 1-1 draw with Manchester United the springboard for a run of five unbeaten, with a 3-0 win over West Ham a particular highlight in the battle against the drop.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Man City vs Wolves team news

Guardiola has been suffering with a serious injury crisis at centre-back, and that was exposed in its entirety by Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League.

John Stones, Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol are all out long term for City, while Oscar Bobb “said he was injured”, according to his manager. The young forward is thought to be nearing a move away from the Etihad Stadium this month, with Fulham reported to have tabled a bid.

January signing Marc Guehi could make his debut at the heart of defence after his move from Crystal Palace was confirmed this week.

Omar Marmoush returned to the side after his Africa Cup of Nations campaign, and he was the only substitute used by Guardiola in the defeat in Norway.

Phil Foden broke his hand in the Manchester derby defeat last weekend but played with it bandaged up against Bodo.

As for Wolves, it seems as though Fer Lopez will return to his former club Celta Vigo on loan, while Toti and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde are their two injury absentees, who are closing in on returns but will not quite be ready for this game.

Man City vs Wolves prediction

You would expect a reaction - a big one - from City, especially with Guardiola at the helm, and a no-mercy approach.

What better way to pick yourselves up then at home, against the side cast away at the bottom?

This should be relatively easy pickings for the hosts, but how long can Wolves keep the floodgates closed for?

Man City to win, 4-0.
