Carabao Cup winners aiming to seal an immediate return to Wembley
Manchester City are sweating over the fitness of defensive pair John Stones and Ruben Dias for this weekend’s FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool.
Dias missed Man City’s Carabao Cup final win over Arsenal with a hamstring injury and did not go away with Portugal during the international break, subsequently sitting out friendlies against Mexico and USA.
Stones, meanwhile, was called up by England for their double-header but was an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw with Uruguay before pulling out of the squad ahead of the loss to Japan because of a minor injury.
"It's not ideal for John and not ideal for us of course," said Thomas Tuchel at a news conference earlier in the week.
"John was gutted that he had this minor incident again. It was not a big injury, just minor, but given the history we had to be careful. It made no sense to push him through and try stuff to make things even worse."

With an equally important Premier League fixture against Chelsea on the horizon, Pep Guardiola could opt to not risk either central defender in the knowledge that Marc Guehi is available for selection.
Guehi was ineligible for the Carabao Cup final but is free to play in the FA Cup despite already featuring for Crystal Palace in the third round prior to his January transfer.
James Trafford is expected to retain his place as the cup goalkeeper, while Rayan Ait-Nouri could replace Nico O’Reilly at left-back despite the latter’s heroics against Arsenal last month.
Nico Gonzalez, Tijjani Reijnders and Phil Foden are all pushing to start, though an eight-day gap in between this fixture and Chelsea away could see Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Rayan Cherki continue in midfield.
Erling Haaland should be fresh after not going away on international duty with Norway, but he may be joined in attack by Omar Marmoush after the Egyptian scored twice in the fifth round win over Newcastle.
Predicted Man City XI: Trafford; Nunes, Khusanov, Guehi, Ait-Nouri; Rodri, Silva; Semenyo, Cherki, Marmoush; Haaland
Injured: Gvardiol
Doubts: Dias, Stones
