A man in his twenties died overnight after his off-road motorbike hit concrete blocks on a Paris ring road exit during PSG’s Champions League celebrations, according to L'Équipe.
The crash happened around 1am near Porte Maillot. The blocks, about one metre high and clearly signposted, had been installed by Paris city services to close access. His death was confirmed at 2.20am and an inquiry was opened.
Separately, a young man was left in a critical condition in the 16th arrondissement after an alleged attempted homicide by four attackers, including one with a knife. Police at around 4am found him with two eye wounds and heavy mouth bleeding. Firefighters tried to resuscitate him and he was taken to a Paris hospital in a coma. The attackers fled.
Across France, 780 people were arrested, up 32 percent on last year, with 457 placed in custody. In 2025, after PSG’s first Champions League win, 592 arrests were made, including 491 in Paris.
Fireworks mortars were used more often against officers. In total, 57 police and gendarmes were injured, none classed as medically serious. There were 219 participants hurt, eight seriously, with thefts and looting in about 15 cities.
Disturbances were recorded in 71 communes. For Sunday’s homecoming festivities, police plan robust interventions and fines for obstructing the ring road. Around 6,000 officers are mobilised for security.
