Manchester United and Wrexham have reportedly decided on which country to stage their pre-season friendly as talks advance.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United and Wrexham were locked in talks over taking part in a pre-season friendly ahead of the 2026/27 term.
United are already planning for the future and have identified the Championship club as an opponent in their pre-season preparations.
The report stated that both United and Wrexham are carefully planning their pre-season schedules in light of the upcoming North American World Cup.
United, having toured the US for two consecutive summers, may now seek an alternative pre-season destination. The club is wary that the market may be saturated following the World Cup, hence why they were considering Scandinavia. Like United, Wrexham also boast significant popularity in Scandinavia.
The Daily Mail have now given an update, indicating that the two clubs have picked a country – Finland.
The newspaper notes, “It can now be revealed that Finland has been earmarked as the destination for the match, with discussions still ongoing.”
“Confidential understands United are exploring the prospect of playing two friendly matches in the Nordic countries in late July as they begin to assess their pre-season options.”
“A match against Wrexham in Finland is understood to be gathering momentum, while there have been suggestions of a second game against another opponent in Gothenburg, Sweden.”
The identity of the second opponent remains unknown.
United will not have time to stage a post-season friendly as they did after the end of the 2024/25 campaign, when they visited Malaysia and Hong Kong.
Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim and his players are next in action on Sunday when they go away to Aston Villa.
