Manchester United have released their end-of-season retained list, confirming talks are ongoing with veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton over fresh terms.
Heaton was expected to part ways with United at the end of the 2024/25 season but in a stunning transfer twist, it emerged that the club was keen on keeping him for at least one more year.
His deal runs out at the end of June but United have confirmed work is underway to tie him down to a new contract.
Manchester United’s goalkeeping department could undergo a major shake-up this summer, with doubts lingering over the futures of both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.
The Red Devils are understood to be open to selling the duo following a season in which neither managed to impress.
Onana has been linked with a potential move to Saudi Arabia, while Bayindir is reportedly attracting interest from Turkey, paving the way for a possible return to his homeland. This uncertainty could explain why United are eager to keep Heaton.
United had already confirmed the departures of Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen. Lindelof and Eriksen made their final appearances for the 20-time English champions in the 2-0 win over Aston Villa on the final day of the Premier League season.
Evans travelled with the squad to Asia for the post-season tour and lined up against ASEAN All-Stars and Hong Kong.
Meanwhile, United have announced that academy players Hubert Graczyk, Jack Kingdon, Sam Murray, Tom Myles, James Nolan and Tom Wooster are also being released.
United have pledged to support the departing youngsters in finding new clubs, while also offering them a tailored aftercare programme to aid their transition.
United also note that starlet Ashton Missin has been offered a contract to remain at Old Trafford.
Missin signed his first professional contract with United last summer.
