Manchester United completed their much-hyped midfield revamp this past summer, signing three midfielders while failing to land another on deadline day.

The Red Devils are eyeing a defensive revamp next summer, with all but two defenders fighting for their United futures.

Apart from changes at the back, INEOS also plan to revisit their interest in Louis Page. But he might not be the only midfielder to walk through the Old Trafford door.

FussballDaten have revealed that the 20-time English league champions have already been in touch with Borussia Dortmund over a deal for Felix Nmecha.

United in pole position for Felix Nmecha

The 25-year-old was on United’s radar this summer as well, but the club went in a different direction instead.

However, as reported by the German outlet, the three-time Champions League winners remain the German’s most persistent admirers and are ahead of the chasing pack, which includes his former club Manchester City, and Newcastle.

Dortmund are aware of the interest their midfield marauder is generating, and they have slapped a £86 million price tag on the Germany international’s head.

“The Red Devils are considered the most persistent interested party and have already officially contacted Borussia Dortmund to hold initial talks for Felix Nmecha.

Felix Nmecha would cost a bomb

“While Manchester United initiated talks at club level, Newcastle went on the offensive with a direct swap deal plus a transfer fee. Interested clubs are expected to intensify their contacts ahead of the 2027 winter transfer window.

“Borussia Dortmund’s management considers Felix Nmecha, who joined the club on July 3, 2023, and extended his contract until June 30, 2030, on March 11, 2026, to be an indispensable pillar of the team.

“It is expected that BVB would only enter into negotiations for a transfer fee of at least €100 million. Furthermore, performance-related bonuses and a sell-on clause are expected to be integral parts of any potential deal.”

INEOS might struggle to land him

A deal in January can safely be ruled out, but it remains to be seen if United actually go all out for Felix Nmecha next summer, considering the work to be done in defence.

Lewis Hall is expected to cost a bomb now that he has signed a new deal, and to add the Hamburg-born ace to the squad will require INEOS to loosen their purse strings enormously, something they have refrained from doing since taking over sporting control from the Glazers.
