Manchester United are set to earn around £8 million from the sale of Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United from Nottingham Forest.
The Sweden international joined the United youth set up when he was 12 years old.
He rose through the ranks and won the club’s Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award in 2021.
This would also be the year he made his first team debut and he would go on to play 55 times for the Red Devils, scoring four goals.
Elanga failed to secure much game time under Erik ten Hag however and left for Nottingham Forest in 2023 for a fee of £15 million.
Crucially, a 20% sell-on fee was also included in the deal and this will now be a boost to the Red Devils this summer.
After two successful seasons at the City Ground, Newcastle have returned with a second bid for the winger.
Commenting on Newcastle’s latest bid for Elanga, journalist Nathan Salt posted on X that there is a “significant % sell-on for Manchester United, who sold Elanga for £15 million.”
“At a time when they badly need to raise funds, Newcastle are doing them a solid.”
He later reported, “told it’s 20%. So around £8m due to head to Old Trafford this summer.”
There may still be some work to do though, as Sky Sports report that “Forest value Elanga at £60 million and have no desire to sell him.”
Nonetheless, the former United man is said to be “intrigued” by a move to the North-East and would welcome a transfer.
There is no doubt the extra £8 million could assist United in a summer where sales are necessary to complete the business that they wish to.
What’s more, they could also stand to make more cash from sell-on clauses should Alvaro Carreras finally complete his switch from SL Benfica to Real Madrid later this summer.
United are also hoping to find new homes for Jadon Sancho, Antony, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho to boost their spending power this window.
