Bruno Fernandes knows where he’d like to ply his trade if he departs Manchester United anytime soon.

The midfielder took part in a tell-all interview this week, during which he detailed his transfer sagas that occurred over the last two summers.

In 2023, Fernandes was heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford but still in Europe, with the likes of Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan all establishing their interest in taking the midfielder on board.

Despite reports suggesting he was tempted by the move, he opted to commit his future to United instead, and put pen to paper on a three-year bumper deal – one that saw him become one of only three players at the club who earn in excess of £300,000 per week.

When addressing the situation, Fernandes told Canal 11: The issue of loyalty isn’t viewed the same way it used to be. I could have left in the last transfer window. I would have earned much more money. I was going to leave a season ago – I won’t say where – but I would have won many trophies that season.”

Fast-forward 12 months, and the United skipper was the subject of a mega-money proposal from Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Hilal.

They were willing to pay United £100 million to take their captain off their hands, whilst also trebling his wages to have him pull the curtains on his European career.

Fernandes took some time to mull over the offer, before he decided that he wanted to continue in Manchester – a decision that not only suited him but also his family’s wishes as well.

He has since divulged in his interview that he was upset to learn that United were open to facilitating his sale, as they would’ve received a hefty sum from his departure.

“From the club’s side, I felt a bit like, ‘If you leave, it’s not so bad for us.’ It hurts me a bit. More than hurting, it makes me sad because I’m a player who has nothing to criticise,” the 31-year-old explained.

“I’m always available, I always play, good or bad. I give my all. Then, you see things around you, players who don’t value the club as much and don’t defend the club as much. That makes you sad.”

Now, Fernandes has hinted where he might take his exploits after he bids farewell to the United faithful, telling the Portuguese outlet: “I would like to experience the Spanish league and fight for big titles in Italy. I have many connections to Italy… my daughter was born there.

”I’ve already thought about returning to Portugal… the first option would be Sporting. To be happy, like it was with Sporting. But I don’t want to ruin the image that was left.

“But I don’t want to drag myself there, I want to add to it. And even try district football, at an advanced age. You play in the district for love, you feel different. I have friends in the district.”
