Manchester United are set to announce the signing of Carlos Baleba from Brighton & Hove Albion after reaching a full agreement over his much-anticipated transfer.

However, the Red Devils remain in the market and are expected to make a move for a left-back.

The defeat against Hull City underlined United’s issues out wide and may intensify their pursuit in the final days of the transfer window.

According to The Sun, Manchester United are still hopeful Arsenal could be persuaded to sell Myles Lewis-Skelly despite his recent starts.

Lewis-Skelly, who is capable of playing as a left-back and midfielder, started in the middle of the park in Arsenal’s Community Shield and Premier League triumphs against Manchester City and Coventry.

Despite his recent starting role, Lewis-Skelly is still facing an uncertain future at the Emirates.

“Well-placed sources said Lewis-Skelly’s starting role is partly due to Martin Zubimendi’s struggles and the late return of Mikel Merino, who appeared in Spain’s World Cup final victory,” the report states.

Arsenal have also spent heavily to sign Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United, and it is hard to believe the Brazilian midfielder has moved to North London without a guarantee of a crucial role.

Meanwhile, Riccardo Calafiori is an undisputed starter out on the left flank.

It is understood that Arsenal value the Englishman at north of £50 million. United want to bring in a left-back before the transfer deadline but feel Lewis-Skelly is “overpriced”.

Lewis Hall is regarded as United’s prime target for the position and would reportedly be keen on making the switch, but Newcastle are not willing to negotiate his exit.

Meanwhile, reports in Spain have suggested the Red Devils are interested in Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde, who was left out of his side’s matchday squad to face Elche on Sunday.

It has been reported that Balde has an offer from three clubs, including United. Barcelona are open to parting ways with the Spanish full-back.
