Manchester United are reportedly in negotiations with Acácio Valentim to add him to Ruben Amorim’s backroom team.
The Red Devils have undergone a massive transition in recent months with Amorim’s appointment as manager and the subsequent removal of most of the coaching staff.
Naturally, Amorim brought along the majority of his staff from Sporting CP such as Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido and assistant coach Emanuel Ferro in November 2024.
United continue to try and reshape their structure behind the scenes and are reportedly in the process of bringing another Portuguese coach into the fold.
Record have reported that “Manchester United wants to add Acácio Valentim to Rúben Amorim’s support structure.”
What’s more, “the Portuguese manager is in negotiations with the English club.”
A deal is not done but “there are good prospects for a positive outcome. In fact, Acácio Valentim may very soon join Rúben Amorim’s setup.”
Valentim recently left his post as Team Operations Director at SC Braga and would likely fill a similar role at Old Trafford.
He also has recent experience at Shanghai SIPG FC in China and FC Porto in his native land.
The position of Team Operations Director is a common position in European football teams and primarily “focuses on team logistics, planning, and coordination rather than coaching.”
He could also carry out some of the work around the playing squad that is currently under sporting director Jason Wilcox’s responsibility.
His place in the staff could also free up Amorim and allow him to focus more on coaching the team and trying to get them to carry out his 3-4-3 formation with much greater effect than last season.
