Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of highly-rated Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.
The 20-year-old has made the leap to the Premier League after the Serie A side accepted a £25.2 million deal, with potential add-ons of £4.2m from Man United.
With a clear focus on strengthening their wing-back position, the Red Devils made Dorgu one of their top targets this transfer window.
He completed his medical yesterday and signed a five-and-a-half year deal until 2030 with the option for a further year.
Dorgu, primarily a left-footed player, brings the flexibility to operate on either flank, adding versatility to United’s attack.
His arrival is a significant boost for manager Ruben Amorim, who has long desired a new left wing-back to strengthen his squad.
With injuries to both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia sidelining United’s left-back options for much of the past two seasons, Dorgu’s signing fills a crucial gap.
The Denmark international is labelled a ‘statement signing’ by Journalist Henry Winter.
Amorim has remained unwavering in his commitment to the 3-4-2-1 formation, insisting that he won’t change his tactics regardless of results.
By bringing in Dorgu, Amorim is demonstrating his strong belief in his system.
He has played 57 times for Lecce, netting five goals and two assists.
The starlet possesses superb dribbling skills but must improve his defensive technique to thrive in the cutthroat environment of the Premier League.
He is expected to make his United debut against Leicester City next week.
United have already announced a deal for Arsenal starlet Ayden Heaven on Saturday.
With less than two days remaining in the transfer window, United are keen to sign a new attacker.
