Man United outcast still wants to join Barcelona after failed January move | OneFootball

The January transfer window ended without any new signings for FC Barcelona, but not for a lack of trying. After all, the Catalans did make an attempt to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United on loan.

The Blaugrana sporting director, Deco, confirmed as much in a recent interview, stating: “It’s true that Rashford was talked about, and he could have come, but we weren’t desperately looking for a player.

“If he could have come, it would’ve been nice, but it wasn’t a priority.”

Barcelona tried to bring Rashford in on loan until the end of the season but needed to free up salary space for him which was not possible due to their inability to offload players.

In the end, the Manchester United outcast ended up joining Aston Villa on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

However, according to reports in England, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo, Rashford still remains keen on a move to Barcelona despite the failed transfer in January.

The English attacker is determined to finish the season strongly at Aston Villa in order to convince the Catalan club that he would be the ideal signing to reinforce their attack in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona are in the market for a new top-class forward to strengthen the squad for next season, with names like Rafael Leao, Luis Diaz, and Alexander Isak on the club’s shortlist.

But Rashford still harbours hopes of donning the Blaugrana shirt and hopes to use his time at Aston Villa to rediscover his best form and convince Barça to revive their interest in him before the next season.

Since making the switch to Villa Park, the 27-year-old has made two appearances without scoring or assisting a goal.

Prior to that, he had made 24 appearances for Manchester United this season, racking up seven goals and three assists.
