Manchester United won a seven-goal thriller against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup fourth round at Old Trafford this evening.
The Red Devils ran riot as Casemiro (2), Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho scored before the break.
Leicester City scored twice to remain in the contest. Their second goal came right before half-time.
The second half was not as entertaining, but Fernandes netted on the hour mark to ensure the Foxes didn’t find a way back into the game.
United will compete in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup after this victory.
Altay Bayindir – 5/10
The Turkish international failed to punch the ball powerfully enough to clear, allowing the Foxes to score their first goal.
He later made a fine stop to deny Boubakary Soumare but looked uncertain with his ball distribution.
Diogo Dalot – 7/10
The Portugal international was an attacking threat throughout the game and delivered a great cross to assist Garnacho.
Matthijs de Ligt – 5/10
De Ligt made no errors but failed to stamp his authority at the back.
Victor Lindelof – 5/10
Lindelof did not look confident as Leicester tried to catch his high positioning.
Lisandro Martinez – 6/10
The Argentine looked tired at left-back as he had to cover large spaces to defend on the flank.
Casemiro – 9/10
Best player of the night.
Casemiro launched a magnificent strike from 30 yards to score the first goal. He doubled his goal tally by blasting the ball into the net from a set-piece.
He made some fantastic passes, including spotting the run of Dalot for Garnacho’s goal.
Manuel Ugarte – 7/10
A solid performance from Ugarte raised even more questions of why he did not start against West Ham United.
He did lose his man at times, but his energy in the midfield was refreshing to watch.
Bruno Fernandes – 8/10
Fernandes scored his first goal of the season through a free-kick, which took a wicked deflection before hitting the back of the net.
He then capitalised on a mistake from Leicester’s defence, rounding the goalkeeper with finesse to secure his second goal of the night.
Alejandro Garnacho – 8/10
The winger made a clean connection after receiving Dalot’s grounded cross to put United 2-0 ahead. He was fortunate to earn an assist for Casemiro’s stunning strike.
Marcus Rashford – 6/10
Rashford looked frustrated at the right side as most of the action happened on the opposite flank.
Joshua Zirkzee – 4/10
It was another disappointing night for the Dutch international.
His poor decision-making wasted a golden opportunity to put United ahead in the 6th minute. He kept playing poor passes and failed to connect with Garnacho and Rashford.
Amad Diallo – 6/10
He made a brilliant acrobatic effort to score with his first touch but missed the target.
He fired two more shots to impress the interim manager but should have passed the ball both times.
Noussair Mazraoui – 6/10
A decent display from the former Bayern Munich star. He was robust defensively and floated a dangerous cross in the middle.
Rasmus Hojlund – 5/10
Ruud van Nistelrooy sent him on to get a goal and build his confidence ahead of Chelsea’s clash. However, he failed in that pursuit.
Jonny Evans – 6/10
The veteran did not allow his former side to score a third goal.
Ethan Wheatley – N/A
Too late to rate.
